Coca-Cola Blak

TODAY'S QUOTES:

"Ruthton looked like any of a thousand Midwestern towns, an aging collection of small homes on straight streets, all arranged around a two-block downtown where the brightest light after 9 PM is the Coca-Cola machine down by the Standard Oil station."

~ Andrew H. Malcom

"The only way that I could figure they could improve upon Coca-Cola, one of life's most delightful elixirs, which studies prove will heal the sick, and occasionally raise the dead, is to put rum or burbon in it."

~ Lewis Grizzard

"I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love.  Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtledoves. I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.  I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company."

~ Bill Backer, Billy Davis and Roger Cook - January 1971 (Coca-Cola 'Hilltop Commercial" writers.)

I have a problem.

I have collected Coca-Cola Memorabilia for ten years.  Most of it now resides in my kitchen / office area, and I like it a lot, though I rarely drink the stuff.  I just like the way it looks.

I rarely consume sugar, drink mostly water, green tea, milk...occasionally some decaf coffee.

I am extremely sensitive to stimulants.  Can't take sudafed, can't do the no-drowsy stuff.  Caffiene has been known to cause night terrors in me, which isn't particularly good for my husband's health. (I wake up screaming.)

So caffienated beverages are pretty much off limits.  I consume them only occasionally and only very early in the day.  The closest I get to Coke is the occasional caffiene free diet version, to which I add a squeeze of lime juice. (since they don't make the diet coke with lime in a caffiene free version.) No rum or burbon, please.

And I was happy with that arrangement.  UNTIL......

Enter Coca-Cola Blak.  A "Carbonated Fusion Beverage".  A bottle of coke, infused with the deep, rich flavor of coffee!!!  Oh mama, we have a problem.  This stuff tastes a bit like the coffee flavored candy we used to get at the convenience store as kids.

I bought a four pack and gave a bottle to each of my three kids.  They were kind enough to offer me a taste, and the rest is history.  The other bottle that you see hamming it up for the camera in various poses around my kitchen and office is just for decor.  One bottle, for posterity.

But it calls to me.

Am I glad there are no more bottles in the fridge, because if there were, I'd drink one, and may sugar, caffiene, and night terrors be darned!

Oh well, everyone needs some temptation to resist.  It builds character.  So, resist I will.  While strains of "I'd like to buy the world a Coke.." play in the back of my mind.

What temptation resistance builds your character?
